Wedding Transport in Kent: A Practical Planning Guide for Couples

A practical guide to wedding transport in Kent: which journeys you actually need to cover, how to time them, getting guests home and what to ask before you book.

Wedding transport in Kent is usually one of the last things couples book and one of the first things they worry about on the day. It's easy to see why. Venues here are spread out, many of them down narrow country lanes, and the gap between a ceremony in Canterbury and a reception in a barn near Faversham can be longer than it looks on the map. Get the transport right and nobody notices. Get it wrong and the whole timetable slips.

We drive couples, families and guests to weddings across the county every season. This guide sets out what you actually need to plan for, how to time it, and what to ask any provider before you book.

Which Journeys Do You Actually Need?

Most couples think of "the wedding car" as a single booking. In reality a wedding day in Kent usually involves four or five separate journeys:

Getting ready to the ceremony. The bride or groom, often with a parent, and separately the bridesmaids or wedding party.

Ceremony to reception. Only needed if the two are in different places, which is common when the ceremony is in a church and the reception is at a country house or barn.

Guest transport. From hotels or railway stations to the venue, and sometimes between ceremony and reception.

The late-night run. Getting the couple, family or guests back to hotels and homes at the end of the night.

The next morning. Plenty of couples fly out for their honeymoon the day after. An airport transfer booked alongside the wedding saves one more thing to think about.

Write these down with rough times and numbers of people. It makes getting accurate quotes far easier.

Choosing the Right Vehicles

Our fleet is made up of modern executive cars: saloons for the couple or parents, estates for luggage, and people carriers that seat up to six for the wedding party and guests. They're immaculate, quiet and comfortable, and they look smart in photos.

We'll be honest about one thing: we don't run vintage cars or stretch limousines. If you have your heart set on a classic car for the arrival at church, book it for that one journey and use us for everything around it, from the bridesmaids and parents to guest shuttles, the late-night run and the airport the next day. Many couples find that combination gives them the photo they want without paying vintage rates for the whole day. You can see the vehicles on our fleet page.

Timing Your Wedding Day Journeys

The safest way to plan is backwards from the ceremony. Decide when you want to arrive, normally ten to fifteen minutes before the start, then add the journey time, then add a margin. In Kent that margin matters. A tractor on a single-track lane, a closed road for resurfacing or summer traffic around the coast can add twenty minutes without warning.

Talk to your venue about parking and drop-off points as well. Several of the county's best-known venues, from castles such as Leeds Castle and Chilham Castle to the converted barns around Canterbury and the hotels along the coast at Whitstable and Folkestone, have specific arrival points for wedding cars. Tell us where they are and we'll plan the approach in advance. If you want to stop on the way for photos, build that into the timings now rather than on the day.

Guests, Stations and the Late-Night Run

Guest transport is where wedding days most often come unstuck. Rural venues can be hard to reach by taxi at short notice, and at midnight on a Saturday the local ranks are often empty. Arranging transport in advance takes the pressure off everyone.

We regularly collect guests from Ashford International and Canterbury West, which are the most useful stations for anyone coming down from London, and from hotels across East Kent. At the end of the night we can run a series of trips from the venue to hotels and homes, booked for set times so nobody is left waiting. If your guests are flying in, we can collect them from the airport too.

Questions to Ask Before You Book

Whoever you choose, ask the same few questions:

Are you licensed and insured for private hire? Any provider carrying paying passengers must be licensed by the local council and insured for hire and reward. You can read how we work on our licensed and insured page.

Is the price fixed? Make sure the quote covers every journey you need, with no surprises for waiting time on the day.

What happens if something goes wrong? Ask what they do if a vehicle is delayed or breaks down.

Can they dress the car? If you'd like ribbons or flowers, tell us when you book and we'll confirm what's possible for your vehicle.

A Sample Wedding Day Timeline

Every wedding is different, but this is how a typical day might look for a 2pm church ceremony in Canterbury with a reception at a country venue twenty minutes away:

12:45: people carrier collects the bridesmaids and mother of the bride from the house.

13:15: executive car collects the bride and her father, allowing time for a short stop for photos.

13:45: bride arrives at the church, fifteen minutes before the ceremony.

15:15: couple leave for the reception; guest shuttles run from the church to the venue.

23:30 to 00:30: late-night runs to hotels in Canterbury and guests' homes.

Laid out like this, it's easy to see how many vehicles you need and when. We'll draw up a plan like this with you before the day.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far ahead should we book wedding transport in Kent?
As soon as your date and venue are confirmed. Summer Saturdays book up early, so for those dates several months ahead is sensible.

Do you cover the whole of Kent?
Yes. We're based in East Kent and travel to venues across the county and beyond.

Can you take us to the airport the day after the wedding?
Yes, and it's worth booking at the same time. We'll collect you from your hotel or home and track your flight on the way back.

Can we book just the guest transport?
Of course. Many couples use us only for guests and the late-night run.
